Mi’Ele Booker is a creative storyteller whose work is centered around the exploration of self-reflection through surreal digital art and poetry. Based in Detroit, Michigan, she creates art that takes her viewers on a journey of self-discovery, as she shares her personal experiences and insights with the world. I met Mi’Ele at Michigan State while directing Judgment is Blind (2019) for VIM Magazine. Mi’Ele was such a good spirit on set, and I have loved Mi’Ele’s digital art since.

Mi’Ele’s relationship with the camera dates back to her childhood, where she enjoyed capturing the beauty of nature and finding beauty within herself through self-portraits. Her passion for art and storytelling continued to evolve, leading her to experiment with Adobe Photoshop in December 2019, which transformed her art style. She incorporated surrealism into her portraits, which became the focal point of her creative journey.

But Mi’Ele’s work doesn’t stop with the completion of a piece of art. For her, the final step includes writing, where she journals her way through every aspect of the digital art until she discovers what it reveals about herself. Self-reflection is an integral part of Mi’Ele’s creative process, and it’s what fuels her passion for art. Her work is a testament to her dedication to learning, teaching, and creating, and she uses her art as a platform to inspire others to explore life with self-awareness and vulnerability.

As a mentor, Mi’Ele has had the privilege of working with students of all ages, from mentoring middle school girls to working as a personal growth and academic coach for freshmen at Michigan State University. She enjoys helping people see things in a different way and inspiring them to find answers about themselves. Her art is an extension of her mentorship, and she hopes to inspire her viewers to embrace self-reflection.

Mi’Ele would like to acknowledge Dylan, her collaborator, for inspiring and challenging her to create art that she hadn’t done before. She also thanks her family for being her constant support, and her friends and online community, who have watched and helped her grow through her creative journey.
