Dylan Curtis is a multidisciplinary artist who has built 4D Candles, which offers a unique combination of art and sensory experiences. Dylan’s journey began when he started editing videos at 16, and continued his education at Michigan State University where he further developed his video production skills and began to learn 3D Art, Design, and Animation. During his time living in a housing cooperative called Orion, Dylan discovered his passion for candle-making.
Dylan’s interest in candles was inspired by the many candles he burned while working on his motion graphics and video projects, which he found helped him focus. During the quarantine period, he decided to try his hand at making candles once again after recalling a fond memory of making candles with his dad as gifts over a decade prior.
As a creative, Dylan enjoys experimenting with the digital and physical realms, and he sought to combine his 3D art and candle-making skills to create a unique experience. The concept of a paired scented candle with an animated piece unfolded, leading to a 4-dimensional digital/physical synesthetic experience. Dylan brought in other artists to help him create these works, wanting to share this new platform with other artists he met along the way.
Dylan is a lifelong learner who is passionate about trying new things and developing new skills. He believes that all things are interconnected and that learning something new always sheds a fresh light on something previously understood. Dylan is grateful to his friends and family for their support and to the artists who have contributed to his art-repreneurship project.
Dylan’s vision for 4D Candles is to continue working with and supporting more local digital/physical artists, and inspire others to think outside of the box! He’d love to continue to expand the 4D brand with more digital/physical synesthetic experiences.
